Leave Mom Alone This Mother's Day with Connected Appliances

by Bill Welles

New appliances are wonderful. Nevertheless, the last thing you probably want to get your mom for Mother’s Day is an appliance, or a small appliance like a vacuum. Unless she’s like Monica from the TV show Friends, something to help her cook or clean is not really that thoughtful or romantic. In fact, on a scale of 1 to 10, ten being the most romantic, it is about a -37.

However, if any of your kitchen or laundry appliances do need replacing, there is an exception to this rule: connected appliances. A new connected appliance is fun for the whole family. Anyone with a smartphone or tablet can now connect to and operate the product, not just mom.

Leave Mom Alone with a Smart Fridge

You’re probably used to mom keeping the fridge and pantry well stocked with everything from your favorite drinks being ice-cold to your favorite snacks, always on hand. But look, mom ain’t got time for that, especially on Mother’s Day.

This is the magic of connected appliances. A smart fridge can keep a running shopping list of everything the household needs. Everyone with the app can add to the list. With a centralized list, anyone (that means you!) can go pick them up, giving mom a break. Some are even equipped with cameras so you can check on what’s in the fridge when you’re at the store.

Some connected refrigerators have the ability to find and narrate recipes to you while you cook. It sounds like the perfect feature for making mom breakfast in bed. It’s also a great feature for the whole family to get cooking more because being a mom is a full-time job, and she needs a break.

Leave Mom Alone with a Smart Laundry Pair

Look, mom doesn’t have time for your laundry. It’s Mother’s Day, and she should nosh on a delightful breakfast in bed that was prepared by you and the rest of the family. Sipping mimosas is hard work! Luckily, a connected washer and dryer is good for both of you.

WiFi-connected washers and dryers can let you know exactly when your laundry is done washing and drying by alerting your smartphone. If you happen to have stepped out  to pick mom up some flowers, you can easily give those clothes a fluff, from wherever you are. Automatic tumble can also keep your clothes wrinkle free until you can fold them. Remember, mom ain’t got time for that.

Opt in for dryers with a steam cycle so you can eliminate any ironing you have to do. Dual-bin units are also great, as you can wash and dry all your laundry in about half the time. They have separate bins so you can wash your delicates while bleaching your whites at the very same time. Washers with self-cleaning cycles are also a great option to eliminate a job that often gets overlooked.

Leave Mom Alone with a Smart Range

Connected ovens offer a variety of features that not only make you a better cook, but they also help you leave mom alone on Mother’s Day. The fact that you can adjust the temperature from the comfort of your own chair is pretty amazing. No more excuses for burnt food!

You can also preheat the oven from the same spot. Being a couch potato has never been more productive. Heck, you can be a couch potato while you bake potatoes. You can also switch up the oven cycles, like when you need to broil something for the last 2 minutes.

Other features you can find on smart ovens are infrared heating elements, separate spaces for cooking different dishes at the same time. It’s like the dual-bin laundry units mentioned earlier but with tasty food. You can even connect to recipe apps that can preheat the oven and set the baking temperature automatically.

Smart appliances do all of this and alert your smartphone so you can continue binging Netflix.
